This coffee from Finca el Pincel is a special release - it's a small lot, we have a very small amount of it, and it's a relatively rare varietal. While on a sourcing trip in June of this year, we came across this coffee on a cupping table and were blown away by it. This chiroso lot tastes similar to an African coffee, a distinct tea like flavor with nice citrus and floral notes. Earlier this year Yenser won 4th place with this incredible coffee in the regional competition, Antioquia Magico.
Chiroso is a relatively new varietal that is rarely found outside of Urrao. Producers believed chiroso to be an old growth mutation of caturra, but recent genetic testing has shown it to be an Ethiopian landrace. The flavor profile certainly resembles an Ethiopian coffee - complex, citrusy, sweet and floral. Since the varietal began regularly placing in regional and national competitions (including Colombia's Cup of Excellence) a few years ago, it's popularity has grown.
El Pincel is a small farm that was established over 50 years ago and was passed on to Yenser by his parents. He maintains the farm throughout the year with his brother and hires 4-5 pickers during harvest.
