El Tempixque is a light to medium roast. We’ve been getting notes of candied nuts, malted chocolate, and sweet cherry. It’s not a fruity coffee per se, but the clarity and sweetness really make it shine. This is a great example of the “Genuine Antigua” profile, a coffee compromised of washed bourbon and caturra, which have been grown in this valley since coffee was introduced here. It’s a sweet and straightforward coffee.
Finca El Tempixque is an incredibly beautiful farm in the Antigua valley of Guatemala. The Falla family started growing coffee here in 1890. It was in 1962, that Arturo Falla Cofiño, 3rd generation of the Falla family, decided to purchase a farm next to his family’s original farm. This new farm he called “El Tempixque”, tempisque is the name of a tree that is right in front of the gate at the farm.
This is the first coffee farm we ever visited in 2019. It’s an immaculately run farm and also home to a large wet and dry mill operation. El Paraiso and the main component of the Western House are both dry milled here and sent to export through this business.
