EL TEMPIXQUE, Guatemala

DATE  |  BING CHERRY  | PRALINE

Region: Antigua
Producer: The Falla Family
Altitude: 1,850 meters
Varietal: Bourbon, Caturra
Process: Washed

El Tempixque is a sweet, straightforward coffee that really shines through its clarity and balance. We’ve been getting notes of candied nuts, malted chocolate, and sweet cherry in the cup. It’s not a particularly fruity coffee, but there’s a subtle sweetness and clean clarity that make it incredibly enjoyable.

This coffee is a great example of the classic “Genuine Antigua” profile—a style rooted in the washed Bourbon and Caturra varieties that have been grown throughout the Antigua Valley since coffee was first introduced to the region. It’s the kind of coffee that doesn’t need to shout to get your attention: sweet, clean, and remarkably consistent.

The Farm

Finca El Tempixque is an incredibly beautiful farm nestled in Guatemala’s Antigua Valley. The Falla family began growing coffee in the region in 1890, and in 1962, Arturo Falla Cofiño, the third generation of the family, purchased a farm next to the family’s original property. He named it El Tempixque, after the tempisque tree growing right in front of the farm’s gate.

El Tempixque was also the first coffee farm we ever visited, back in 2019. The farm is immaculately run and is home to a large wet and dry mill operation.
